Today I Learned . . .

One of the primary reasons that elephants were slaughtered in history, was to get the ivory from their tusks to make high end billiard balls. Seeing that ivory was a diminishing supply, a search went out, with a $10,000 reward to find a less scarce supply, ultimately leading to modern billiard balls being made of phenolic resin, a type of plastic.
